"Now I'm off singing karaoke, further than I've ever been"

Sept 22

The coworkers and I took a beach break and brought the kids and the girls along. It was really hot that day, I guess everyone had the same idea as us. We dined on grilled red snapper and fried plantains and quenched our thirsts with ice cold homemade cherry juice and Prestige (Haitian National beer). Good times!

Although every cook has her own special technique, most Haitian fish, meat and poultry are marinated in delish spices that include citrus, adobo, parsley, scotch bonnet peppers and garlic.

Grilled fish on the beach.

Loving the neon and black & white print on my bikini

It wasn't until I was working on this post that I realized that I was drinking around children. It is so common in many households that I thought nothing of it, but now that I'm back in the States, I feel a little uncomfortable about it.

I <3 sunsets

The HUMONGOUS lobster that the coworkers bought. I'm not into shellfish, so I didn't partake but it smelled delish, the juices were sloshing all over the plate.

"I go back to black"

Sept 20

I took my sissy to the beach with me today.  I think I was rewarding her for something, but I forgot what. I treated her to some lobster, because she has never had it before. She didn't like it is my way of putting it nicely.

Black & white never get old

The beach is one of my favorite places, the water soothes me

I made her eat every bite, I do not waste food

My meal of grilled red snapper and fried plantains was delicious

"You know that I'm no good"

Sept 14
Jacmel, Hait (Lakou Nouyok)

Went out for fried food and beer with the coworkers.  As usual, I was the "over dressed" one.  This outfit was a lot more out there than I realized prior to walking out of the door (that's always the case it seems).

I love this top and although I never used to like shorts, they come in handy in Haiti's heat. Top it off with a neon pink bra and attention getting bright pink lips and we've got an outfit.

This is the view during the day.

Sunset sunset

Another day, another set of beach pics.  Are ya'll tired of seeing me in my bathing suit yet?  Well my everyday outfits have not been that exciting, they mainly consist of shorts and camisoles.  Beach days are a nice reprieve, I get to frolic in the sun for a little bit but I am always beat after coming from the beach.

goat shish kabob

lobster & fried plantains; I don't really eat shellfish but I figured I would give grilled lobster a shot, the flavor was really good but I'm still not a fan of shellfish.  I don't really like the texture or the flavor of the meat.  Give me chicken, goat, fish or beef.

Beach Bum

I went to the beach with my friend's nieces for the eldest one's birthday today.  Beaches in Massachusetts are nothing to call home about.  It was really hot today!  I love the sun and I love being out, so a beach day was definitely delightful... in theory. Lol.  We went to Revere Beach, and the water was sooo salty.

Happy Hour

I went out with my friend Z for Happy Hour.  In Boston, Happy Hour is illegal so they usually serve discounted meals in addition to discounted drinks.  We went to this fun restaurant McCormick & Schmicks.  Definitely check out one of their two locations if you're in Boston.

Pink Gladiator

Hi fashionable people.  Today is my birthday eve.  I wanted to go to a club to usher in another year of life. Not that I had any doubts about it lol.  I had fun, but I wouldn't have missed anything if I stayed in.

This sheer lace blouse is so feminine I love it.  The only thing I would change about the top would be to wear a different bra.  My sis told that I looked like I was wearing a training bra.

Volunteer

Today I went to a volunteer info session at Partners In Health.  They have a lot of great programs.  They have a program based in Haiti, and they also have a fantastic program that brings kids who need extra medical attention to Boston from Haiti.  The volunteer session was for interested hosts, event planners, tutors and an admin assistant.

Click Click Take A Picture

I love the paisley design and the material of this dress.  The colors are so soft and neutral.  I found it very easy to style and it's a comfortable dress.  However, I think I'm going to retire this little beauty.  I noticed the  seams seemed to be coming loose, and the material frays a lot.  I've had this dress for over a year, and she has done very well by me.   I'm not sure if I should just toss it, or if I should donate it to Goodwill?  What do you fine readers think?

I loved this belt the moment I laid eyes on her.  However we weren't quite a perfect fit, so I took her to be fixed and now it's a match made in AJ Wright!

Red & Yellow Red & Yellow

I was up so late last night trying to create an outfit for today.  I scoured fashion blogs, magazines, the color wheel and my closet for inspiration to almost no avail.  But don't fret fashion friends.  I did manage to put something together.

Voila!

Ruined

On Feb 5th, I went to see Ruined with the honey.  It’s a play about the conflict in the Congo, and some of the effects it has on members of its society.  It was soo good and I’m so glad I took the initiative to bring him.  He enjoyed it as well.  I really like the arts, and I love cultural events especially ones that realistically showcase African cultures.  This fit the bill completely; a must see if you ever have the chance.

Lions, Tigers, and Bears oh my!

Did I mention my love for color?  If not, I LOVE colors.  I am also in love with patterned tights.  I think it can definitely enhance any outfit.  You may have also noticed how much I love to layer bracelets and bangles.  I am an accessories fiend.  Outfit how much do I love thee?  Let me count the ways.  Books in pic: check!  Accessories: check! Fighting Spirit

Tonight I went out with a friend to the movies.  We originally planned on seeing Black Swan, but the movie had already started by the time we got there so we opted to watch The Fighter instead.  It was really good, it had drama, realistic action and a great plot and dialogue.  Plus Christian Bale (serious actor) and Mark Walhberg (eye candy & fellow Bostonian) are in it, what more can you ask for?

Gingham and gray

Today, I had plans to go to the movies with my friend Z but she had to cancel, so I attempted to run an errand or two.  That did not go according to plan, so I was all dressed up with no where to go lol.  If it makes me look any better, I did manage to leave the house, I got pretty far but I didn’t accomplish what I wanted to get done.  Anyways on to the outfit.  I love this plaid shirt, it reminds me of the gingham patterns of picnic tablecloths.  Picnics make me think of summer, and the smell of grass.  I have a lot of colors going on with this outfit, but I like to think I made it work.  Is there anything you would have done differently with this ensemble?

When you're here you're family

I went to dinner with my sister and some friends to have a belated birthday dinner for the sis.  Her birthday was on the 22nd of November so I don’t even think it counts.  However we all got free dessert because we were out celebrating her birthday lol.  No complaints here.  I’m not really into Italian food, and I’ve only been to Olive Garden once or twice so I didn’t have high expectations for dinner.  Dining out is more about the experience which includes the food but also includes the company I’m in, the service and the ambiance.  I can tell you the company that I was in was hilarious.  We had quite a lively and dirty conversation during dinner that I’m sure caused a few raised eyebrows from fellow diners.

Rebound Chick

Tonight I went out with my sis to a local club that has Haitian night on Sundays.  I mainly went to see this Cape Verdean artist perform (Nelson Freitas).  I had a great time dancing.  I am not the best dancer but if the guy is a good leader, it looks so graceful and effortless.
