Sunset sunset

Another day, another set of beach pics.  Are ya'll tired of seeing me in my bathing suit yet?  Well my everyday outfits have not been that exciting, they mainly consist of shorts and camisoles.  Beach days are a nice reprieve, I get to frolic in the sun for a little bit but I am always beat after coming from the beach.

goat shish kabob

lobster & fried plantains; I don't really eat shellfish but I figured I would give grilled lobster a shot, the flavor was really good but I'm still not a fan of shellfish.  I don't really like the texture or the flavor of the meat.  Give me chicken, goat, fish or beef.

But Ricky!

Hope all of you ladies and gents are doing well..  I went to the beach twice last week.  Although I was feeling bloated , I still wanted to enjoy the beach so I opted for my polka dot one piece  I love this bathing suit.  I think it is so retro, it reminds me of a dress that Lucy used to wear in I Love Lucy.

Life Force

Regular old day, I think I just went walking around town.  I wanted to explore my town, I didn't get to see as much as I would have liked to, but it was still nice to be out and about.  Doing a bit of color blocking, these colors just make me think of life. Green: Plants, Yellow: Sun and Blue: Water.

Life's A Beach

I finally made it to the beach!!  Last Sunday, I got a much deserved beach break with my fam.  We (my sister, bro and cousin) got to frolic in the water and have fun in the sun.  I need to make some friends so I can have an adult beach trip.  Adult beverages included.

The water was way too sandy, but it was still a nice reprieve from my daily duties.  I bought a beach wig. It's big and curly, wait till y'all see it!

T Shirt kind of Day

Hi hi hi!
I went to watch a local soccer match last Friday (Aug 27th), and I just threw on some denim shorts and a t shirt, which if you have been following my blog for even a week, you would notice that is not a norm for me.  I've been really hot (which is to be expected in Haiti) and I wasn't going far, so my extra casual outfit would have to suffice.

Last Supper

Hope everyone's doing well!  Here are some pics from my last evening in the States.  I hung out with some girlfriends and we had our usual girl talk which consisted of men, men and some more men.  You know cuz we're philosophical like that.  There is a shopping plaza not to far from where three of us live that has really neat restaurants and cool shops.  I've been to almost all of them, but there was one, the Yard House that I never seemed to be able to make it to.  There always seems to be a long wait.  Well today was our special day, because there was a table available and it was patio seating (my fave in the summer & spring).  My outfit was nothing to write home about, because my "good clothes" were all packed up, but enjoy the shots of me and the homies.

Paint balling!!

Hi all,
Hope everyone and theirs is safe and sound after Hurricane Irene.  As you may know, I'm in Haiti.  Thank goodness it passed us.  I think we have filled our quota for natural disasters.  Any who here are pictures from two weeks ago when I went paint balling.  Um yeah this siht hurts!!!  I've been paint balling before but it was indoors.  This place is outdoors which means more people which means more flying bullets which means death to me :(

Spots and White

Hope everyone is doing well.  I went to a late movie with a friend a couple of weeks ago, I love movies.  I wore my high waisted white shorts and this spotted top.  I really liked how simple and easy this outfit was. I added the blue sandals as a touvh of color to an otherwise simple outfit.

Have you all seen any interesting movies lately?

On To The Next One

I hope everyone is doing well!  The following pics are from August 11th.  I had a going away mixer.  It was a good turnout.  It was really nice to see some old and new friends all in one place before I had to leave.  I just hope everyone doesn't forget about me.  I have at least four different modes of communication: email, Facebook, Skype and Twitter, so my friends and fam have no excuses!

All The World Is A Stage

Hi all, I went out with a gentleman friend last Thursday.  He surprised with a really lovely play.  I am big into theatre and the arts.  I've heard of Porgy and Bess, but I have never seen the play before.  I am also very fond of Afro cultural events, and this play is about an African American community in the South.  Although I did not know where I was going, I figured I should look decent, the only instructions that I got were to wear comfortable shoes.

I am not a fan of bright yellow, because I always feel like it washes me out and makes me look pale.  However, now that summer is here, and I have tanned, yellow looks much better on me.

The Graduate

I went out to dinner last Tuesday at my favorite restaurant; Elephant Walk.  It is a French Cambodian restaurant.  There are two locations, one in Brookline and the one in Cambridge.  Just about everything that I have had there was delicious.  My fave dish is the salmon and yukon potatoes.  They also had this really great wine there; Kir Royal; one of my favorite wines.  I had a very difficult time deciding what to wear, because of the company that I was in.  I finally settled on this dress.  I am more of a leg person.  I rarely wear low cut tops; plus I have no breasts so no one is really missing out.

Truth Tuesday

I really enjoy my own company, it's not you.  I just like being by myself.

Wild Life

Here is what I wore to the zoo on the 14th.  I bought these white shorts from H&M.  They're high waisted, I call them mom jeans.  This is also new for me because I don't wear white often.  I'm the type that gets the weirdest stains on my white clothes within 10mins of wearing it.  This top is a favorite of mine.  I like the flower details and the scalloped edges.  I also think the burnt orange is a great contrast for the white.

BRB

Hi all,
By the time you see this post, I will be well on my way to Haiti.  I will be volunteering there for a couple of months, with an awesome organization that provides maternal healthcare to local women.  I have several backed up posts, which I will post as soon as I am settled in.  I am also going to continue to maintain the blog while I am in Haiti; since fashion is international lol.  Thank you all for continuously checking out my blog and commenting.  I am new to blogging and you have all been so supportive.  Please continue to tune in!

Special thank you to Inez (she is a great blogger and the sweetest) for all of her troubleshooting help in Blogger :)

There She Goes, There She Goes Again

Hi all!
I went to the Stone Zoo today.  I've been to the Franklin Park Zoo numerous times, bt never the Stone Zoo.  I love being outdoors and learning new things, so a zoo trip is definitely up my alley.  I do have an issue with animals being caged in as opposed to being in their natural habitat; but what's a girl to do.  As long as they don't look like they're being mistreated.  Stone Zoo is small, and a little far from Boston but I liked it better.  It wasn't busy, and it didn't look like all of the exhibits were crowded together.

No One Like You

Hi ladies and gents!
I hope everyone is having a great and productive week.  I'm counting down the days before I leave for Haiti (it's 5).  I'm so excited!
I recently went out to dinner and saw a movie with a gentleman friend.  It was long overdue.  We hadn't hung out in a long time, and I needed to be out after being house ridden due to having strep throat.  I love movies and eating so it was fun times.  Add good company to the mix and I'm a happy customer.

Truth Tuesday

I really expect to have the wonderful life that I've envisioned in my head.

She was the sun's painting

Hi ladies and lads!  Today (8/4) was spent at the doctors and getting my eyebrows done (long overdue).  What do you all think of my shirt?  I got it at the Afro Fest.  This was my last acquisition.  The vendor must have really wanted to sell his things because he gave me the shirt for $5 and I think that they're normally $15 or $20.  I didn't even have to bargain.  I actually insisted that I didn't want to buy anything because I didn't have any money left.

This pic reminds me of the Jill Scott and Mos Def song Love Rain, although there is no rain and I am not in love

Bubble Tea

Hi all,
I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend.  This post is a bit overdue, because the pics are from two weeks ago (8/3) when I went to lunch with a friend.  We went to grab some sushi in Copley (an upscale business/shopping area that spans several blocks).  I wasn't too crazy about my meal.  However I perked up a bit when I realized that they now offered bubble tea (an Asian drink, either tea or juice that has tapioca pearls in it) yum!  Their bubble tea selection was tiny so I stuck with my face Asian teal; Thai tea.  It was a really nice and sunny day.  I finally brought out my white jeans that I have been so scared to wear.  I am like a little kid when it comes to wearing white.  I get every stain imaginable on my white clothing.  This has made me ridiculously wary of wearing white.  I did manage to get through my meal without any stains; so three claps for me!

Thai tea, the bubbles are the little black balls on the bottom

OOTD at Aquarium

Hi all,
This is just a quick post to highlight my outfit from my aquariam date.  Alhtough I love this dress, it's fun, bright, airy, thus perfect for the muggy heat in Boston; I didn't like the way I wore it last Sunday.  I've usually belted it, but that day I decied to just let if flow.  Let's agree that I should never let things flow when it comes to my wardrobe.  Ok?  Ok, great!  Take a gander at what I wore.

Boo took this pic, not too bad for a 6yo hunh?

Aquarium Date with the Boo

Last weekend I went to the aquarium with my boo.  It's been a long time since I've seen him so that was definitely nice.  We parked in Fanueil Hall, and stopped to watch some street performers do acrobatics.  Boo saw a man making balloon animals and wanted one.  Took some cool pics and listened to a street drummer bang on pots and buckets, cuz we're cool like that.

Can you see them jumping rope with the little kid?

Truth Tuesday

I'm waiting on that I love you so much it hurts love.  You're the first person I call with news love.  You make everything better love.  No one exists but us love.  Until then, anyone else is just holding your spot for you.

Day at the MFA

Hi ladies and gents!
This post is a continuation from the Chihuly post.  I didn't want to inundate the post with so many pictures, so I decided to split the two.  After the Chihuly exhibit, my friend Kim and I decided to explore the rest of the museum even though we were pretty familiar with the exhibits already.  Check out the pics!
Let me in!!

Chi what? Chihuly!

Hi lads and ladies,
I hope everyone had a great weekend.  These pics are about a week old.  I went to see an exhibit with a friend of mine at the art museum.  I love art, but it has been a while since I've been to the museum, because I felt like I had seen everything they had.  However this exhibit definitely caught my attention because of the medium the artist chose to work with, and the fact that we didn't have to pay an entrance fee.  Score!  A blown glass exhibit by Dale Chihuly was being featured for a limited time.  The colors, themes, and designs are GORGEOUS and so creative.  Just looking at the pieces made me want to learn how to paint or draw.  Most of the pics are of the exhibit.

Arm Party

Hi my dearest readers.  Will you believe five challenges later, I'm finally joining the Bloggers Do It Better challenge?  Lol, they don't call me stubborn and slow for nothing.  The latest assignment called for an Arm Party.  We all know that I'm always down for a party :).  The term Arm Party was coined by Man Repeller, and it's basically how one layers one's bracelets, bangles, and cuffs etc.  This assignment is right up my alley, because I love to layer bracelets.  Some might even say I over indulge when Arm Partying, but it's a good thing I didn't ask some.

Here is my look for the BDIB challenge

Check out some other Arm Parties that I've hosted.

I Don't Know Why I'm Scared, I've Been Here Before

Hello hello!
This outfit is from last Wednesday, the 27th.  I didn't do anything special.  Just a meeting, that proved to be pretty fruitful.  I will admit that I agonized over what I should wear.  I've been using Polyvore a lot lately to inspire some outfits.  It was a really hot day, and these shorts are so comfy.  The last time I wore them here it was for a night event.  For years I used to shy away from wearing shorts.  I've got meat on my legs and thighs, and I just always felt like shorts were unflattering, and not for me.  Aren't we glad that phase is over?

I'm sure you guys understand by now, how deep my love for this fedora goes.

See, I Just Want You to Know You're Far From the Usual

I went horseback riding a couple of weeks ago.  I debated posting the pics, because there wasn't anything fashionable about them.  In fact I had on jeans and a plain purple T.  I rarely wear jeans and a T.  I knew that I would be getting dusty and sitting on a horse for 30mins, so I didn't think it made sense to wear anything "cute".  I also had plumber's butt in almost ALL of the pics.  SMH that I didn't notice this.  I'm trying to be more open about what I post on the blog, because there are days where I don't really go anywhere, or wear anything blog worthy.   So here it goes.

The place is Bobby's Ranch in MA, check it out if you live here.

Caramel Plum

Hi (waving ecstatically), hope you all had a great weekend.  I had a fun but slightly expensive weekend.  I will definitely be laying low this coming weekend.  As you probably assumed, these pics were taken in a library.  No, I don't just go take pics in the library lol.  Whenever I need to get things done, or serious thinking, I like to go someplace quiet.  I can not work/think in noise, AT ALL.  Ever since I was a child, the library has always been my refuge.  Books are my escape and they've allowed me to expand my horizons in more ways than I could have ever imagined.  I am so fortune to have had teachers and mentors who encouraged and supported my love of reading and thirst for knowledge.  I still have a bunch of books from my childhood, that I can't wait to share with my future children.

Betcha Didn't Know

Hey gals and guys,
Hope you all had a fantastic weekend!  Thought I would share some things about myself that you may not have gleaned from reading this blog.

Just a quick video to say hello, and to express my appreciation for all of your sweet comments.  As well as to put a voice to the words and pics :).  Let me know if there is anything that you would like to see on the blog, or a future vlog.  Take care!

Money to Blow

Hello hello!
Quick back story. I was at Savers (thrift store chain) on Monday exchanging a purse. As I'm leaving, a crisp $100 bill on the floor behind an empty register catches my eye. For all of two seconds, I considered discreetly picking it up. Then the moral side of my brain kicked in and suggested that I alert the manager. I figured that it probably fell from someone's register, and once the drawer was counted at the end of the shift; said person's drawer would be short, and they would probably be fired for a careless mistake on their part and thievery on mine. I did the right thing and told the manager. You guys don't know how much it hurt, but I sucked it up and went home, as poor as I had left. Fast forward to Sunday. I went to a Haitian club (what a surprise) and as I'm walking to the bathroom, I make out in this dark club, money folded up on the floor. I wasted no time in bending down to pick it up. I sped to the bathroom and lo and behold it was two $20s and a $10. Woohoo! It pays to do the right thing I guess. On to what y'all came for :); fashion!

Pizza for 3

Hi ladies & gents,
Have I ever mentioned my love for pizza? Well I LOVE pizza, especially gourmet pizza. I even make pizza at home when I'm feeling particularly frugal. My favorite toppings are spinach, ground beef, tomatoes (not roasted eww) green peppers, and oodles and oodles of cheese. Two friends and I went out for drinks and din din last Friday. Girl's night is always fun. Lots of gossip and updates.

African Fest

Boston hosted it's 2nd annual African Fest on the 16th, and it was an event that I was excited to check out. I love all cultural events; especially the music, traditional garb, and let's not forget the vendors! It was wonderfully hot that Saturday and I planned on walking around, so I knew that jeans and even shorts were out of the question.

Creole Cooking

ALERT! This is not a fashion post...

Welcome, welcome,
So as many of you know if you've been following my blog for even a day lol; I am Haitian.  With that being said, I love, adore and delight in the goodness that is Haitian food.  You may ask what constitutes as Haitian food and how is it any different from other Caribbean foods like our neighbor the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, or Jamaica.  I will admit that we eat almost the same staple dishes (rice, root vegetables, lots and lots of meat and fresh being that we are islands) and they are seasoned almost the same way (Adobo, bouillon cubes, scallions, garlic, scotch bonnet peppers).  However, just like your Mom, Grandma Agnes, and Aunt Chrissy make their turkey differently using almost identical ingredients, that is what separates Caribbean food.  As much as I love my homeland's traditional dishes I must admit that I do not cook them often.  The prep and cook time is sooo long and tedious that I am no longer hungry once the meal is ready.  I sucked up my impatience and took one for the team on Thursday.  Another thing with most Haitian cooks (and I sure most longtime cooks as well); we don't use measurements we cook by sight.  There are many sites that have recipes for Haitian meals, but one of my favorites and most accurate is Poto Mitan.  Without further ado ladies and gents, I present to you Rice and Pigeon Peas with Fried Red Snapper:

One and Only

I've been having a tawdry love affair with the color coral, so in my attempt to share the love with the other colors in my closet; I'm branching out.  It does count even though these jeans aren't that far off from coral right?  I mean, am I expected to just quit cold turkey?  It was pouring chickens and ducks on Wednesday, and I made a dead run for the door.  I am not a runner so this was a very comedic sight lol.

MaiMusings Is Going To Haiti

Hi ladies & gents!
I have a huge announcement.  I'm going to Haiti!!  I am so excited and nervous at the same time.  If you'd like to learn more feel free to follow my other blog Mai Musings in Haiti, I'd love your support.  Now on to fashionable times until then.

Orange Creamsicle

Hello hello kind people!
I went to see one of my favorite kompa bands; Carimi on Sunday.  Their music brings out all sorts of emotions in me.  I've laughed, been in deep reflection and felt sexy all because of one album.  Although it is a Haitian band, I think that they have crossover appeal because music speaks all languages.  On to what I wore.  This dress is a lot of fun, from the tie dye skirt to the tie neck to the jersey material underneath to the stones on the bodice.  When I was getting ready I was undecided about what I wanted to wear, but I saw this little number peeking out at me, and I had to give it some shine.  Do you have any dresses that have a lot going on but that you feel compelled to give it some love every now and then?

Eggplant and Mustard Kinda Day

Hi ladies and gents!
I went to dinner with my friend today (that seems to be a trend hunh?)  For some reason I had the most difficult time finding anything to wear.  My room looked like a natural disaster.  I wanted to be comfy because we would be walking but also casually cute.  I finally settled on my trusty mustard shorts and this voluminous eggplant purple top.  I considered wearing sandals, but these zebra flats caught my eye and it was a done deal.  Do you have a go to outfit in mind for casual dinner dates with friends, or do you play it by ear?

West Side Story

I went to see West Side Story today!!  It's basically an urban Romeo and Juliet, set in the 1950s in New York.  I've loved West Side Story since I was a teen.  It wasn't until seeing the play live, that I realized how much I love plays.  I love all forms of art, but plays and musicals hold a special place in my heart.  I love Cinderella, The Nutcracker, Sound of Music.  Before I *die I must see the Lion King on Broadway.  Are there any specific art mediums that you love or are obsessed with?

BRB

Sorry for my absence, the weather has been a bit crappy in the Bean; and I have not been getting gussied up like I normally do.  I will be back tomorrow with not 1, not 2, not 3 but 4 posts!  Woohoo!!! Stay tuned and see you lovelies tomorrow.

Dinner With A View

Excuse the face, idk what was goin on.

I went to dinner with an ex today.  It was a casual unplanned dinner, so I didn't feel the need to dress up.  We went down to the Marina Bay in Quincy.  There were several restaurants with a great view of the water to choose from.  The only downside is that we weren't able to see the sunset during dinner, as it was too late.  Oh, dinner was delish by the way.  Food is definitely a favorite pastime!

That's the Spirit

Short post, mainly pics.

Happy 4th of July to my fellow American readers.  I went to a friend's cookout today.  I wanted to be festive and patriotic without looking like the American flag.

Pretty In Pink

Would you believe that these pics were taken at 6am today?  I went out last night to a Haitian concert.  This really popular Haitian Kompa group T-Vice was playing with another group.  I've been trying to take a break from the Haitian nightlife, because it's always the same crowd, I spend too much money and I am not having much fun anymore.  However, I'm going to Haiti in August to volunteer for a couple of months, so I wanted to get some more fun in my system before I leave (more about that in another post!!).

Beetle Juice Bettle Juice

I had a date today :), nothing serious on my part; I went for the food and conversation.  We went to Elephant Walk in Brookline.  It's a Cambodian French restaurant.  If you live in Boston, you should definitely check them out.  They, like a lot of other restaurants have a prix fixe menu.  However Elephant Walk has a variety of choices for the prix fixe option.  Conversation was great, but there's no love connection.

Beach Bum

I went to the beach with my friend's nieces for the eldest one's birthday today.  Beaches in Massachusetts are nothing to call home about.  It was really hot today!  I love the sun and I love being out, so a beach day was definitely delightful... in theory. Lol.  We went to Revere Beach, and the water was sooo salty.

I want it all

I went to my friend's friend's birthday party on Saturday night.  It was nice and chill.  I had a couple of Patron margaritas.  Margaritas and I are bff's.  However, Joe the bartender made them a little too sour for my liking. Although this was another Haitian event, it was very different from the numerous events that I regularly frequent.  The men weren't desperate and thirsty.  So that was nice for a change, different but nice.

Sunrise Sunrise, feels like morning in your eyes

Hello hello,
So if you remember from my last post, I talked about wanting to participate in blogger challenges.  I wanted to do Bloggers do it Better, this challenge called for pairing a neon color with a neutral.  I racked my brain and searched my closet for these two items.  Although looking through the pictures, my shirt looks more like a pale yellow rather than a neon yellow but A for effort right?

Ritas and Fajitas

On Saturday I met up with some friends to celebrate a birthday.  It was a really nice day in the Bean, and I thought neon blue jeans summed up my love for the sun completely.  I wish I could find similar jeans like this in yellow, green, red, and pink.  They're so comfortable.  The color doesn't bleed or fade.  In case you were wondering, these are called cigarette pants.  I'm not wearing high waters and trying to play it off.

Striped Pink

I went to my friend's house for dinner tonight.  It was really nice getting together and hanging out with her. We lost touch for a while, so we have been doing a lot of catching up.  After dinner, I went to this club in downtown... wait for it... by myself!  I don't know what came over me, ok fine I do but I'm too ashamed of myself to admit it.  But suffice it to say that I wasted over $50 that night and I didn't have any fun.  Am I the only one that hates when I waste an outfit?

No Speakers

I went out with an old friend to a house party today and it was  a little very lackluster.  Not much else to say about my night, but it was definitely a bust.  That is one event that I could of missed.  Have you ever been to an event where you wanted to turn and walk right out of the door?

Brown Eyed Girl

I've been wearing a lot of animal print lately, and I am loving it.  A couple of weeks ago, I talked about wanting to find more leopard print tops so that you would not be forced to witness me wearing the same top over and over again.
